 Not all bad but wouldnt buy again November 20, 2007
-My battery died within 6 mosbr /-The internal wireless card went bad after about 2 yrs. Unfortunately it also causes Windows to crash if I even switch it on. Luckily it doesnt bother Linux.br /-The HDD has just died at a little under 3 yrs.br /br /These failures are common in laptops that travel often and used roughly. However I used this as a desktop comp with very little travelling.br /br /OTH I very much like the LCD. And I will be upgrading the memory and the HDD to extend its life, as well as pull the wlan and upgrade cooling as it always ran hot.

In July of 2004 I walked into the store to buy a new laptop and fell in love with this Sony's excellent LCD display. I walked out with a laptop slightly larger and heavier than I intended to buy, but I've never regretted the purchase.br /br /I felt compelled to write a review because I was surprised by all of the negative reviews. I've had this laptop for almost three years and have never experienced any of the problems mentioned in any of the other reviews.br /br /The only negative thing that I can think to say about this laptop is that it's bulky.br /br /I still have the original lithium battery and unplugged, it lasts a bit less than an hour, but I'm not unrealistic about battery performance.br /br /I occasionally wish that I had a bit more RAM, but that's when I'm deep into processing very large files via Photoshop CS2 and Adobe Bridge. I've gotten by nicely with this laptop as my only computer for the past three years.
 Motherboard died after inmediately 2 years of use December 30, 2006
This computer is the first and last Sony laptop I will buy. Immediately after 2 years, the computer cannot be used for more than one hour. I took it to a Sony repair specialist who determined the mother board had died. Estimated repairs were quoted at +$800 which nowadays can buy a Centrino Duo notebook (New). I am very dissapointed with SONY, this item was purchased at nearly $1,600.00 two years ago, now it's gone. I do not recommend SONY notebooks because of their poor quality control, this is not an isolated case: I know of three other customers with identical quality control problems in one city alone. Toshiba, DELL, and Gateway are best buys. I have never had any problems with those brands. Serial number for my machine is 281792309321022 should anyone at SONY wish to contact me.

Take your basic PCG-K23 Sony Vaio laptop computer and turn it over on its back. Remove the two OEM sticks of RAM and replace them with two 512mb pc2700 333mhz chips, and then replace the OEM 4200rpm HDD with a Hitachi Travelstar 7K100 80gb 7200rpm HDD and - Vola'! - instant hotrod computer for a decent price (and with a superb screen to boot)!
Bad Bad Bad product watch out August 4, 2005

For all of you out there do not fall to this cheap product.br /I bought a sony notebook PCG-K13 last year and paid a lot of money thinking I am getting a SONY quality and it turned out it has a major problem that all notebooks of sony have. It overheats very fast and finally the hard drive died and even after buying a new hard drive the problem persisted. SO for those who are lucky enough to check this DO NOt buy this product. I am sad :(
