Overall decent January 6, 2009 This gets the job done, our only complaint is that instead of getting more channels, we actually get less!
Don't Buy This Converter Box January 4, 2009 0 out of 2 found this review helpful
If anyone is considering buying this converter box -- don't. It takes forever for the channels to come up when you're flipping through the channels. The other big let down was that the remote doesn't have a volume button or a button to turn the TV on. You would have to use the original remote that came with your TV to turn the TV on and turn the volume up/down.
get the Zenith :( January 2, 2009 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I got 2 coupons from the DTV web site so i bought this box and a week later i bought the Zenith DTT901; I got the Philco because of the 4 stars and the fact that it cost me only $20 extrabr /br /pros:br /+ good picture. i think the signal strength was about 10% better than the Zenith. BUT...i live in downtown Chicago so we're talking 5-6 bar difference on 100-scalebr /br /cons:br /- SLOWbr /- not a single button on the box, if you break/lose the remote you'll have to buy a new box (unless you find a used remote on Craig's List or ebay)br /- the buttons on the remote are SMALLbr /- no way to control sound level or control the TV in any way...you can only change channels with the remote...br /- pass thru didn't work on my unit, not sure if that's just my unit or a design flawbr /- can't use the coaxial cable to connect to the TV (no sound, picture was horrendous), you'll need to buy an RCA cable.br /br /so yeah, in this price range you'll be a fool to buy this instead of the Zenith. But not i get a lot more channels and the quality is better than what my parents get from Comcast (again, i live 4 miles from the Sears tower) - i'm not sure how the Philco or the Zenith will perform in rural environment or if your signal is obstructed; i use $10 rabbit ears from walmart, nothing fancy
A great digital to analog tv converoer box January 2, 2009 Philco TB100HH9 Digital to Analog TV Converter Boxbr /br /I purchased the TV Converter Box from Amazon using the $40 government discount coupon. The converter box was simple to install, it only took 5 minutes to upgrade a 13 inch color TV with rabbit ears to receive digital over-the-air TV. I have a second coupon to use to purchase a second converter box that I will use to install on another 13 inch color tv in the breakroom at work. I am very, very happy.
Not bad for the price.... December 22, 2008 I'm in the Mpls/St. Paul metro area and it pulls in all of the digital signals available. I do need to adjust the antenna for some channels which is annoying, I may need to upgrade my antenna but I'm not sure. The positive is the on-screen guide - it gives descriptions of the shows (not just the name) and you can go 4 hours into the future. The big negative is the cheap remote control and the fact that there isn't a single button on the box itself. If you loose the remote (easy when you have a toddler in the house) you can't even turn the thing on much less change the channel! I bought our second one from Best Buy (Insignia brand) and it's remote can also do volume and turn the TV off and on making it so you only need to have one remote in hand. But the on-screen guide for the Insignia box only give the name of the show that is on and the next show, no description of the episode.
