Amazon.com Product Description Versatile, compact, and easy to use, the Uniden BC72XLT handheld scanner offers a simple way to monitor the "action" bands, including police and fire channels (including rescue and paramedics), NOAA weather transmissions, business and industrial radio broadcasts, utilities, marine and amateur (ham radio) bands, air bands, and more. In short, the scanner keeps interested parties in the information loop. Of course, scanning the 32,000 available frequencies can be time-consuming and frustrating, which is why Uniden added such functions as Close Call capture technology, which instantly tunes to signals from nearby transmitters to help you detect and identify local signals, and a comprehensive memory that holds up to 100 programmed channels (10 per bank). p The scanner also offers six preset service banks, with preset frequencies for police, fire/emergency, aircraft, ham, marine, and weather, making it easy to locate specific types of calls. And should you want to regularly monitor a few specific channels, you can designate them as "priority" channels. The BC72XLT will then check those channels every two seconds while it scans each bank, so you never miss an important transmission. Other scanning functions include 10 programmable search ranges for finding unlisted frequencies in your area and a two-second scan delay that lets you hear any replies to the original transmission before moving on. p A scanner is fairly useless if you can't decipher the transmission, which is why the BC72XLT is outfitted with triple-conversion circuitry. The technology virtually eliminates any interference from IF images and clarifies the selected frequency, so you needn't strain to pick up certain words or phrases. And thanks to the key lock, you won't accidentally change the programming while carrying the scanner in your pocket. Add in a memory backup that preserves stored frequencies even if the scanner loses power and an easy-to-read, backlit display and you're ready for virtually any scanning situation. p The scanner comes with a flexible antenna with a BNC connector, ensuring adequate reception in strong signal areas (a separately sold external antenna will further improve reception), along with an AC adapter. As an alternative, you can power the scanner using two AA alkaline or rechargeable batteries (the latter can even be recharged while in the scanner). The unit measures 2.75 by 4.5 by 1.25 inches (W x H x D) and is backed by a one-year warranty. p bWhat's in the Box/bbr Scanner, AC adapter, flexible antenna, belt clip, frequency guide, user's manual.

Great Product!! January 7, 2009 Very good product. Works well on nearby signals..not so well for distant or weak ones..maybe external antenae would work better?(plus we live in the mountains)..but I like the portability and power source options..external ac (with included adaptor/recharger) or 2 aa batteries..(not included)..alkaline or rechargable nicd or nimh..batteries recharge while unit is plugged into the ac outlet and in use. I recommend buying the nimh rechargable batteries, because premium alkalines don't last long.
Uniden BC72XLT Handheld Scanner January 6, 2009 My husband was very happy with my purchase of this idea as a Christmas gift. He attends the races and this will allow him to listen to the driver of his choice. The delivery was fast and it was packaged well and it arrived as if I had went to the store and picked it up. I would recomment this business to all who needs a scanner.
Police Scanner January 6, 2009 I bought this for my son for Christmas. He has used it everyday. He said that it is his best Christmas gift ...ever!! His friends have been over and keep saying this is soooo cool! (Rave reviews from 13 year old boys)Great product...great transaction!!
You get what you pay for December 30, 2008 I bought this last year sometime, i have it set to all the fire, ems, police, prison, school dist, just all the listed ones for my area. It picks up pretty good from far distances, I got about 15 miles out of farmington and it was still picking up the police dept clear. The only problem with this is sometimes it will not pick up anything for like 20 minutes at a time even when Im home in town. All in all pretty good buy.
Band Frequency not high enough. December 29, 2008 Uniden makes a great product. I have the BC92XLT and it works great. I bought this for my mother to keep up to date on weather situations in our area but it does not have high enough frequencies to pick up the police and emergency bands in our area. This one would be perfect for Nascar racing fans.
