 20 Mile Range? More like 0.2 miles December 29, 2008
Bought a set for my two boys so we can stay in touch when they visit their friends around the neighborhood. I was expecting to get close to 20 miles range as advertised on the box but when I took it out for a range test the same day I lost signal after less than 1/2 a mile. Beyond this point all you hear is static. Ran thru various configurations on the units to ensure I'm using high-power channels and have full battery charge but it made no difference. The 20 miles range is probably describing a two-way talk across a flat dessert or on the beach. If you plan to use it in a typical suburb don't expect to hear anything beyond half a mile. If you're in the city you will be lucky if you hear anything beyond the city block. Contacting manufacturer for a refund.

I purchased these as a gift for my children. They range in age from 7 to 11. I got two sets, and they seem to be very happy with them. The rechargable batteries and docking station are very convenient. The functions are basic which makes them user friendly. As for the range, I'd say we got between 5 and 10 miles. We haven't pushed the limit yet. I'd recommend these for recreational use. The kids LOVE them!!

That's my 3rd radio, and I bought this one for the 20 miles that was advertised, but in fact it's not real, if used in mountains and valleys the reception is clear for only 1-2 miles.

well, this product was good, the sound quality was good BUT the volume is toooo weak, i barely heard it in a medium noisy enviroment.

The Midland LXT340VP3 "20-mile" 2-way radio was a big disappointment. Based on its advertisement, it has a range of up to 20 miles in open space. From my experience, the most is could cover is about 20 meters in a residential area. It is likewise useless for comm between diff floors within a building. In summary, this product was a big letdown.
