A Proven Safety Tool November 16, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
As a former firefighter, I can attest that there is no such thing as too much protection. The Kidde KL-2S 13 foot escape ladder or a good quality counterpart is a must have safety tool for any two story home. This product and others like it save lives. br /br /Unlike previous heavy chain constructed models, this system is light, tangle free and easy to store. Weighing in at almost 17lbs this unit will hold up to 1000lbs. I highly recommend storing this ONE TIME USE LADDER in the vicinity of the designated escape window. As a ONE TIME USE LADDER do not pull the release strap unless it is an emergency. In the event of an emergency these simple steps will save lives.br /br /1. Close the doors to the room before opening the escapebr / window to avoid intensifying a fire.br /br /2. Open attachment hooks and extend center support. br /br /3. Place hooks over window sill with ladder hanging on thebr / outside of the structure. Attach the white end of the hooks tobr / the inside wall. The red side of the hooks must be outsidebr / the window.br / br /4. Pull release strap to deploy ladder.(To be done only inbr / an actual emergency).br /br /5. Carefully exit window onto ladder, holding attachment hooksbr / to provide stability.br /br /6. When descending the ladder, keep your body close to thebr / ladder to maximize stability. br /br /7. Carry children on the ladder only when it is absolutely necessary. br /br /8. Avoid carrying pets or other objects on the ladder.br /br /9. In family escape, the parent should exit first to stabilize thebr / ladder during the descent of children or elderly adults.
Good Product November 10, 2008 My law office in on the second floor of a building built over 100 years ago, long before modern fire codes. I wanted this fire escape ladder as there is only 1 exit and I was concerned that in case of fire that 1 exit might be blocked. This ladder addresses my concerns and is reasonably priced and has decent quality. However, like other reviewers, I am disappointed it is designed for 1 time use only, as this prevents us from actually testing it. Since I bought this ladder with knowledge from other reviews that it was 1 time use only, I cannot really complain. However, I did deduct 1 star. 4 stars from me.
LADDER HELP November 3, 2008 I do not like this product. I find it very confusing and if a fire were to happen I believe I would have a better chance at jumping than to go down this bumbling tangled-up contraption.br /br /If I were able to fit it back in the box, I would certainly send it back.br /br /I give it 2 thumbs down.br /br /Ver disappointed buyer.br /br /
Who knows? August 17, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I won't know if the product works until a fire breaks out and I have to use it.
